Week 1 of the NFL season provided plenty to ponder about as we head into week 2. Are the Giants THAT bad? Can the Bengals issues really be boiled down to rust and an off week? Is Baker Mayfield the best quarterback in the NFL?

We will likely get some answers on the above this week.

I’ll be highlighting three of my bets for this week. My favorite favorite, my Top Dawg, and my “Tease Me Daddy” teaser for the week.

If you tuned into the first episode of Inside the Tank, you already know these picks. If you didn’t, you can find that episode below!

My One Concern for Ohio State v. Penn State Buckeye Breakdown: Ohio State Football Podcast

I have one concern for Ohio State (favored by 19.5 points) as they take on the Nittany Lions this weekend. Have they truly learned?

Let’s get into the picks!

Favorite Favorite: Colts -1

I was at Lucas Oil Stadium for the Colts home opener last Sunday. The Colts fell to division rival Jags 31-21. I left with a few thoughts.

  1. Anthony Richardson is not as raw as I assumed he would be. He looked calm and collected in his first NFL game. Mistakes were made, but it was a good start to his career and Colts fans should be excited to see him grow.
  2. The Colts need Jonathan Taylor. Or someone. The running game was abysmal with Zach Moss still nursing a preseason injury. While Moss might be an improvement, he still won’t be JT.
  3. If you park in the Rolls Royce Meridian center and do not leave at halftime, you will be trapped in a dark sad garage for multiple hours with two screaming children.

The Colts will travel to Houston seeking their first win in another divisional matchup. It will be rookie vs. rookie as the #2 and #4 pick go head to head.

I’m picking the Colts on the road as my favorite favorite this week. It’s worth noting that I had this bet in on Thursday morning when the Colts were at -1. They’re now sitting at +1 which makes the bet even sweeter if you’re interested.

I like the Colts to win in an ugly game behind a solid outing from their defensive unit. CJ Stroud escaped week 1 without an interception on 42 attempts. I suspect the Colts will look to dial up more pressure and force the young QB to be uncomfortable.

I also expect the Colts to be more aggressive on offense this week. It was no secret that the Colts were trying to ease him into NFL action. There were not many passes downfield and not a ton of designed QB runs.

I think if they open up the playbook and allow the rookie to try and make some plays (and also allow him to make some mistakes), the Colts will find themselves on top this Sunday.

The pick: Colts -1

Top Dawg: Bears +2.5

Baker Mayfield is this years star on Last Chance U and after week 1 it seems the internet has decided he is the second coming of Jesus Christ.

There are stories circulating that Baker figured out Minnesota’s signals and was alerting his team of the defensive scheme before each snap.

He also politely asked a defensive back for the Vikings to eat more food after mowing him over on a 5 yard scramble.

However, I’ve been here before. I was a Baker believer for far too long. While he did provide some amazing moments early in his career, the spotlight became too big for him and a team that was full of talent was never able to take the next step.

Because I’ve been here before, I’m not overly eager to back the Buccs after week 1.

I suspect the Chicago Bears will play with a chip on their shoulder on Sunday. They were embarrassed in their home opener. The offense was painful to watch. Many remember how special Justin Fields was on his feet last year. It seems the new regime in Chicago decided that they would prefer to not use Fields greatest strength as a QB and decided it was best to just air it out and pray for the best. The best was an 18 point blowout loss.

I cannot image that the Bears will have a similar approach this Sunday. I expect a healthy dose of designed QB runs and much, much, much more D.J. Moore.

So, that, on top of not believing Baker is the guy, I’m taking Chicago as my Top Dawg.

The pick: Bears +2.5

“Tease Me Daddy” Teaser

Not getting into the mumbo jumbo. Skipping the foreplay. Putting a 7 point cushion on the below games.

Jags +10.5

Giants +3

SF -0.5

Bills -1.5

Odds: +200 ($10 to win $30)
