Billy Levis will need to put on his big boy pants in his second start as he travels to Pittsburg for an ELECTRIC Thursday Night Matchup. Levis vs. Pickett. A real Goliath vs Goliath showdown.
This matchup has all the makings to be a Thursday night stinker. But there is one thing that I know, and it’s that bad football is better than no football at all. One thing that I love about sports betting is that it can get you engaged in even the stinkiest of matchups. And. This. One. Stinks.
The Steelers open as 3 point favorites at home. Will Levis put on a show in his first start and propelled the Titans to a 28-23 win over the Falcons behind four touchdown passes from the rookie. Meanwhile, the Steelers come off a loss to AFC South leading Jaguars on their home turf. Tomlin will look to get the boys back on track at home and he’s called in the big guns to ensure it (Matt Canada will be calling bad plays from the field instead of the booth).
There are a handful of bets I like in this. Let’s get into them.
Steelers -3
Hold your nose and hammer the Steelers -3. Will Levis will face off against a much stronger Steelers defense on Thursday night, despite the injury bug hitting Pittsburg and sidelining Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Mike Tomlin is 22-5 against rookie QB’s in his head coaching career, one of those losses coming at the hands of CJ Stroud earlier this year. Two losses to rookies in the same season feels like an unlikely occurrence.
For the Titans, one of my concerns is that Billy Boy’s favorite target, Deandre Hopkins, has not practiced all week with a toe injury. I’m not an expert in anatomy, but I think that a toe injury could limit a WR’s capabilities.
I expect the Steelers to force Levis to beat them in the air. The box will be stacked as they work to slow down King Henry on the ground. This will give TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith a golden opportunity to get after Levis on obvious passing downs and cause some issues.
I’m taking the Steelers -3 and trusting Mike Tomlin to have his guys ready to bounce back after the loss to Jacksonville last week.
Under 37
Once again, hold your nose and hammer the under. As I mentioned above, I don’t believe the success continues into Thursday for Will Levis and the Titans offense. Couple that with a banged up Kenny Pickett led Steelers offense, and we could be in for a lot of punts and field goals in this matchup.
The Steelers have went under in 6 of their first 7 games. The Titans are only one ahead with 5 of their first 7 going under. I see the trend continuing for these under achievers. Give me the Under 37 in a boring 24-7 Steelers win.
Prop Bets!
I’m going to throw out one play that is a high risk high reward pick, but I have my reasons.
Chigoziem Okonkwo Anytime Touchdown +450 feels like a good play to me. You look at Will Levis’ touchdowns from his first start, and all four of them came from 15 yards out or further.
While it would be great to see that production continue, the reality is that he will likely have to make plays from the red zone in this Steelers matchup.
The big bodied tight end is still searching for his first touchdown on the year and oftentimes a TE can be a young QB’s best friend when you get inside the 10 yard line. Chigoziem has been involved in the passing game all year, but hasn’t caught his break quite yet. I like Vrabel scheming Okonkwo open for a touchdown.
Once again, it’s a high risk high reward play.
The pick: Chigoziem Okonkwo Anytime Touchdown Scorer +450
Some rapid fire picks I like that are anywhere between that -105 to -135 are…
Will Levis Under 201.5 Yards Passing -115
Tyjae Spears O21.5 rushing yards -110
George Pickens O53.5 receiving yards -115
Chris Boswell O1.5 field goals +100
Wrapping Up
It’s been a long ass week. I’ve been in the great state of Texas since Saturday night and I’m very much so looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and getting back to a little bit of a routine.
I know the socials have been a bit quiet, but both Owen and Myself work in the sales world where the only thing consistent is chaos (especially at the end of quarters).
We are excited to get some more content out there for the upcoming CFB and NFL slate. Keep an eye out for some more blogs and picks on Twitter/X @FTSGambling.
Till Next Time,
