As a Buckeye fan, I thought I’d be a bit more excited as we head into this weekend. But it will be yet another year that I miss out on watching OSU bring home a Big10 title here in my hometown of Indianapolis. However, there is plenty of other games to get excited about as the playoff picture will be painted in full by nights end on Saturday.
I’ve taken a look at the board and I think I smell a perfect weekend on the horizon.
Let’s begin.
Oregon (5) vs. Washington (3)
This feels like a win and get in game for both teams. It will be impossible to deny an undefeated Washington a slot, and Oregon would have as good of a case as anyone to be included in the playoffs after avenging their only loss on the year.
The spread currently sits with Oregon giving 9 points to the higher ranked Washington Huskies. 9 points feels like a lot considering Washington has already beat Oregon in a head to head. But the eye test has told us that Oregon is a dangerous football team while Washington has merely scraped bye, so the points being so heavily in Oregon’s favor is understandable.
Given the implications of the game and how close the first contest was, I’m going to ride with Washington +9 and the O65.5 because I love points and these teams can score them in bunches.
The pick: Washington +9 and O65.5
Oklahoma State (18) vs. Texas (7)
Oklahoma State students literally killed a Longhorn ahead of this matchup. They murdered a cow and left it sitting out on the front lawn of their frat house. That’s a real thing. If Texas had a singular hair on their ass they would go out and score 100 on OkSU in honor of their fallen soldier.
And I think they’ll do that. Not 100 obviously, but to be considered for the CFBP, they’ll need some assistance from the other teams while also dominating their matchup.
Give me the Longhorns to cover the large 15-point spread.
The pick: Texas -15 and justice to be served to those douchebags that killed a cow because of a football game.
Georgia (1) vs. Alabama (8)
Bama almost poo poo’d down their pant legs in the Iron Bowl but pulled off the Milroe Miracle converting a 4th and 30 to seal the deal. A lot of the focus this week has been on their lackluster performance while seemingly ignoring the fact that Georgia only beat Georgia Tech by 8 points as 24.5 point favorites.
I’m so excited to watch these two teams face off. The stakes are so high. It would be very tough for the committee to keep a 1 loss Alabama out of the playoffs and the talent is there for the Crimson Tide to stick with Georgia.
I’m calling the shot. Saban will pull off the upset behind a remarkable Milroe performance.
The pick: Alabama ML +170
Louisville (14) vs. Florida State (4)
Florida State is probably the most controversial team being considered for the playoffs. While they’re undefeated, their biggest win on the season comes against 3 loss LSU team in the first week of the season. They’re also without their star QB, Jordan Travis. The question on everyone’s mind is how much that loss will weigh on the committees mind. If the goal is to have the 4 best teams playing in the playoffs, I’m not sure FSU is one of them without Travis under center.
I think they win this weekend and give the committee one heck of a headache in making their selections on Sunday.
The pick: FSU -1
Michigan (2) @ Iowa (17)
This game is hilarious. You watch OSU and Michigan face off last week in an incredible game and then the “championship” features one of the most boring and uninspiring teams I’ve seen on a football field. I’m glad the change to the championship game is coming and will feature the best teams and get away from these garbage divisional winners.
There is one line I absolutely love in this. That is Iowa Over 0.5 points in the second half. My assumption is that Michigan will try to put this one away early and give their starters the opportunity to rest and stay healthy before the college football playoffs begin. With the likelihood of a backup defense on the field in the later stages of the game, give me a pitty field goal in the second half to get Iowa on the board!
The pick: Iowa Over 0.5 points 2nd half
Wrapping Up
Excited to watch some championship football this weekend. The Buckeyes need chaos to ensue if they want to find themselves in the playoffs and as you can see from my picks, I don’t see it happening.
